Welcome Blossy Fest!
Alexandra is proudly associated with New Zealand’s longest running festival-and it’s all happening again this weekend!
The Blossom Festival first started in 1957 and many of you will have fond memories of the past 60+ years of the annual September event.
The Hastings Blossom Festival actually started first in 1950, but 20 years later bad weather and consequently a ‘riot’ that made national news cancelled the float parade in 1960. It continued until 1973 when the last Blossom Queen was crowned, and the public grew tired of crepe paper floats, but the event was revived again in the 1990s.
Miss Wordsmith has certainly seen a few blossom festivals where there has been a distinct 4 Seasons in one day - brilliant sunshine one minute and then wind and rain the next.
Speaking of four seasons, now is the time to get down to 4 Seasons Landscape Supplies in Boundary Road, and organise everything you need for the garden.
Daylight Saving is starting soon so there will be more time to spend outside.
